In the SmartMine context, optimization is a set of tools that ally human knowledge to computational intelligence to find and execute actions that enhance mine operation performance. By using the SmartMine Optimization it is possible to, for instance, obtain a better arrangement for operation vehicles, use the lowest possible number of pieces of equipment to meet a shift's production goal, eliminate lines and even find the shortest paths in the plant's access ways.
Optimization is essential to assure short-term production goals are met, for they are affected by rain and equipment breaking down, a constant reality in mines.
How it works
SmartMine Optimization was designed to promote a new perspective to modern mines. To that effect, Devex professionals spent years dedicated to research, having master’s and doctor’s degrees in this area, and found solutions for mining.
With accurate real-time data from the mine, Optimization happens in two phases: Allocation Plan and Dynamic Allocation.
During the first step, the vehicle rearrangement plan is carried out by using a Linear Programming method, a tool that has been widely accepted by the academic community as well as by the industry, and extensively used in aeronautics, oil industry, automotive industry, health, economics and many other areas of human knowledge.
After the plan is established, the Dynamic Allocation acts in the second phase, using a powerful simulator that can foresee thousands of allocation combinations for the machines and decide what the best option is in matters of seconds.
Why Optimization?
The SmartMine Optimization simplifies the complexity of the problem related to mine operation management, taking actions that maximize gains.
Given the fact that all calculations, simulations and data collection are made automatically, one does not need be an expert in the area and not even an excellent mathematician to operate the system and benefit from the high efficiency in fleet allocation.
Moreover, we rely on a number of training courses and certifications that include theoretical lectures on Optimization and practical drills that allow one to operate the system. At the end, each participant is certified by Devex as a user who is ready to best benefit from the SmartMine Optimization.
