Robert Subtil, Devex Products Specialist, has just arrived from Australia with an unprecedented experience not only for him but for the history of the company as well. From October 26th to 29th, he participated in APCOM 35, International Symposium on Application of Computers in the Minerals Industry. Hosted in Wollongong, Australia, this Symposium is considered one of the most important conferences in the mining sector.
During three months, Robert developed an article for the scientific community with the purpose of presenting to the academic world, using Smartmine, solutions to real problems faced in the mining industry.
In the article, Robert confirms how the solutions developed by Devex can algorithmically optimize transportation fleet and increase mine efficiency and productivity in real time. The goal was to put these computational methods to the test; and it was exactly what he did. After various discussions with the scientific committee responsible for APCOM, the Specialist achieved the expected result. ‘’Devex solves, for example, the dynamics of truck location. It is clear that real problems can be corrected using the solutions we developed. Our systems are capable of resolving different issues faced by the mining sector, and the result is real gain’’, explains Robert Subtil.
For him, the experience gained in this event, which focused on the academic and scientific world, will be essential for new presentations and for knowledge exchange. ‘’I made many connections not only with students, but with mines that still do not operate with the systems created by Devex. In Wollongong, I was able to further propagate Devex and its optimization solutions’’, completes Subtil.
In addition to the article presentation, which included a simulation of a real mine operation, Robert participated in lectures, workshops and technical visits to the training installations of a virtual mine.
APCOM
APCOM is one of the world’s main scientific gatherings related to the innovation of the minerals industry. The symposium started at the University of Arizona, in 1961, and became a forum of international discussion, presentation and evaluation of emerging technologies in the field of computer research methodology for the mining industry. The goal of APCOM is to contribute to the effective decision making in the minerals industry.
